The 30th Annual WAS Conference was held in Salem, Oregon from August 30th to September 2nd. Among the many presenters, Sue Cobey (UCD/WSU) talked about improving genetic diversity in our genetic pool by importing stock, Eric Mussen (UCD) gave points that help backyard beekeepers be more successful, Mace Vaughn, Xerces, discussed pollinator habitat, Diana Sammataro updated participants on Tucson Bee Lab research, George Hanson, beekeeper, explained the challenges of commercial beekeeping, Mike Weber, Central Oregon Seeds, Inc., described the importance of bees to seed crops, PAm's Christi Heintz talked about PAm's Best Management Practices project, PAm's research and provided an almond industry update and Gordon Wardell spoke about Paramount's beekeeping practices. Attendees were able to participate in a tour of the excellent bee program at Oregon State University. Below, Dr. Ramesh Sagili, OSU, with sample cups for beekeepers to send bees to OSU for diagnostics.
